Nano-Sized Polyelectrolyte Complexes Formed between Poly(vinyl benzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) and Insulin

Novel biohybrid homo-polyelectrolyte-based nanocarriers were formed by the complexation of insulin (INS) with a biocompatible and cationic polyelectrolyte, namely, poly(vinyl benzyl trimethylammonium chloride) (PVBTMAC). According to light-scattering techniques, hydrophilic PVBTMAC homo-polyelectrolyte forms single chains in aqueous media. The resulting PVBTMAC/INS via electrostatic co-assembly. effects polyelectrolyte structure content on characteristics complexes studied. A significant aggregation tendency was observed, based physicochemical results, especially at high protein concentration, corroborating effective interaction INS polyelectrolyte. properties depended concentration stock polymer solutions. neat homo-polymer demonstrated good serum stability presence fetal bovine (FBS) proteins. Fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) studies revealed no conformational changes after its obtained considerable promising for potential use as delivery systems.
